Extracto de una carta de una mujer a su amiga embarazada. “Nadie tiene derecho a juzgarte. Tu hijo no es un pedazo de carne sino una criatura diminuta que vive contigo y en ti. No es cuestión de religión, ni de prejuicios morales, de gente mojigata. Estar a favor de la vida no es exclusivo de católicos, ni de gente que va a la iglesia, ni de personas que rezan tres rosarios al día.

Es simple respeto hacia la grandeza de la vida humana, igual en una mujer católica, judía, cristiana, evangélica, islámica o atea. Tener sexo no es un juego. Debe ser responsable, pues su función es dar vida a otro ser humano. Un bebé no es un error, ni abortar una rutina. ‘Madre soltera’ no es una etiqueta y por serlo no vales menos: eres mucho más por tener la valentía de luchar por él y por ti. Porque decidiste decirle sí a la vida de tu hijo. Decidiste amar por amor. El hecho de ser mamá no apartará a los hombres de ti, y los inteligentes comprenderán que has madurado y estás preparada para tomarte el amor en serio, es amar por encima de las dificultades. ¿Piensas en lo que diría la familia y los amigos? No olvides que en esta historia los protagonistas son tu hijo y tú. Los demás son actores de reparto. Los futuros abuelos van a derretirse de amor cuando tengan que cuidarlo, y quienes te criticaron harán fila para arrullarlo.

Todos en el fondo sabrán que eres valiente. Tu historia cambiará pero los sueños de tu hijo luego serán tus sueños, y serás más feliz de lo que habías planeado, porque esa persona que estuvo nueve meses bajo tu corazón querrá apoyarte. No tengas reparo en dar una oportunidad al amor. Sigue sembrando esperanza en tu esperanza, felicidad en tus pequeñas alegrías y deja que la paz sea tu compañía. No abortes, dale un sí a la vida”.

"Gospel of Jesus' wife" fragment is a fake, Vatican says

(Reuters) - An ancient papyrus fragment which a Harvard scholar says contains the first recorded mention that Jesus may have had a wife is a fake, the Vatican said on Friday.

"Substantial reasons would lead one to conclude that the papyrus is indeed a clumsy forgery," the Vatican's newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, said in an editorial by its editor, Gian Maria Vian. "In any case, it's a fake."

Joining a highly charged academic debate over the authenticity of the text, written in ancient Egyptian Coptic, the newspaper published a lengthy analysis by expert Alberto Camplani of Rome's La Sapienza university, outlining doubts about the manuscript and urging extreme caution.

The fragment, which reads "Jesus said to them, my wife" was unveiled by Harvard Professor Karen King as a text from the 4th century at a congress of Coptic Studies in Rome last week.

Her study divided the academic community, with some hailing it as a landmark discovery while others rapidly expressed their doubts .

"It's really pretty unlikely that it's authentic," University of Durham Professor Francis Watson told Reuters after he published a paper arguing the words on the fragment were a rearrangement of phrases from a well known Coptic text.

Watson, who has previously worked on identifying forged gospels, said it was likely to be an ancient blank fragment that was written over in the 20th or 21st century by a forger seeking to make money.

Watson argues the words on the fragment do not fit grammatically into a larger text.

"It's possible to get hold of an old bit of un-written on papyrus and write some new stuff on it," Watson said. "There is a market for fake antiquities throughout the Middle East ... I would guess that in this case the motivation might have been a financial one."

ACADEMIC DEBATE

Manuscript experts who heard King's presentation quickly took to their blogs to express doubts, noting that the letters were clumsy, perhaps the script of someone unused to writing Coptic.

Writing from the conference, early Christian scholar Christian Askeland said specialists there were divided between two-thirds who were extremely skeptical, and one-third convinced the fragment was false.

"I have not met anyone who supports its authenticity," Askeland wrote from a session of the Tenth International Congress of Coptic Studies, where King gave her paper.

In an email to Reuters after the conference ended and before the Vatican editorial, King said: "Whether, in the end, the fragment will be shown to be authentic is still to be finally determined, but the serious conversation among scholars has begun."

During the conference King stressed that the fragment did not give "any evidence that Jesus was married, or not married" but that early Christians were talking about the possibility.

AnneMarie Luijendijk, associate professor of religion at Princeton University, said she concluded that the fragment was indeed an authentic, ancient text, written by a scribe in antiquity.

"We can see that by the way the ink is preserved on the papyrus and also the way the papyrus has faded and also the way the papyrus has become very fragmentary, which is actually in line with a lot of other papyri we have also from the New Testament," Luijendijk told Reuters during the conference.

The idea that Jesus was married resurfaces regularly in popular culture, notably with the 2003 publication of Dan Brown's best-seller "The Da Vinci Code," which angered the Vatican because, among other things, it was based on the idea that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and had children.

Christian tradition has long held that Jesus was not married and the Catholic Church, by far the largest in Christendom, says women cannot become priests because Christ chose only men as his apostles.

Los siete pecados capitales de la revista Arcadia (No. 84)

Para quienes participan en el proceso de crear y leer la revista Arcadia (Número 82), les tengo un inventario de siete pecados capitales cometidos en dicho proceso:

Pereza: …intelectual, un pecado verdaderamente capital en una revista cultural. Antonio Caballero, tan ocupado como estaba en recitar por enésima vez su diatriba en contra de la guerra contra las drogas, se puso a buscar una forzada analogía entre esta y una foto de un policía antinarcóticos que aparentemente contaba una por una las panelas de cocaína de un decomiso. Lo grave de todo esto es que de una foto como aquella se pueden deducir cosas peores: el declive educativo es profundo, porque si los bloques de cocaína estaban perfectamente alineados, le bastaba al policía el hacer una simple operación aritmética de multiplicar filas por columnas, y no hubiera habido necesidad de contarlas una por una. Y lo peor es que Antonio Caballero no pareció darse cuenta de esto, tan ocupado como estaba de su diatriba antiimperialista.

Esta retahíla ya se volvió vieeeeeeeeeeja…

Sencillamente no puede soportar que el resto de la crítica y el público haya erigido por aclamación a “Amigos Intocables” como una de las películas del año y superfavorita para lograr el Oscar de mejor película extranjera. Y se despacha contra ella.

¡Este crítico sí que se va a contracorriente!

Ira: la que me dio de ver “Coincidencias”, la caricatura de Powerpaola.

¿Encima le pagan por hacerla?

Soberbia: soberbia en el editorial de la revista, que pretende entender lo que Mario Vargas Llosa y Gilles Lipovetsky no entienden sobre la verdadera naturaleza de Occupy Wall Street. Soberbia la del ego de Norman Mailer, escribiendo sobre sí mismo y reseñado en “Un ego se confiesa”. Soberbia en cada nota.

La revista Arcadia rezuma soberbia de la misma manera que el diario El Espacio rezuma sangre.

Lujuria: obviamente con la urticaria que produce el hecho de ver como la novela Fifty Shades of Grey trata un tabú sexual con el mismo criterio y calidad que la saga Twilight trata el tema del vampirismo, Arcadia decide informarle al público que Thomas Mann es el espejo en el que se tienen que mirar E. L. James (y Stephenie Meyer), reseñando el centenario de “La Muerte en Venecia”, un cuento largo o una novela corta que, para los estándares actuales, no pasa de ser un bollo perfumado (para usar la terminología en boga), el símbolo perfecto de la revista Arcadia número 82. Citando otra vez a Alfred Kerr, “En todo caso, aquí la pederastia es hecha aceptable para la clase media educada.”

Gracias Arcadia. Ahora váyanse a donde el procurador Alejandro Ordóñez a confesarse.

¿Qué qué? Si yo compré la revista y la leí. Tengo derecho y este es mi blog.

Too much effort and passion to discuss, but too little time to read the Bible

Well, I found this making my rounds around the web:

Pretty well intentioned, BUT...

BUT the framers of this particular flowchart didn’t read (or wouldn’t) read their Bible a little more closer.

They would have found what Jesus said in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter  19:4-6:

4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

Keep this in mind the next time you want to allege that Jesus said nothing about homosexuality AND gay marriage.

Bazuquita o por qué se necesitan más santos

Bazuquita tiene nombre de reina de belleza: Maribel Gutiérrez. Hasta ahí llega el parecido. Bazuquita vive en las calles, y no ha conocido desde su más tierna infancia otra cosa que la droga. Y cuando no hay para la droga, entonces pegante de zapatería. La desnutrición y el vicio la han deformado al punto que no puede caminar, sino arrastrarse.

Todos la miran y se conduelen de ella. Todos se preguntan por qué no la ayuda alguien. Probablemente es el estado el que debería encargarse de ella. Sin embargo, el estado es un ente abstracto, no una persona real. El congreso podría aprobar la ley "Salvemos a Bazuquita", pero seguiría en la calle si no hubiera alguien dispuesto a atenderla. 

Probablemente por la plata sí. Pero lo dudo. Bazuquita está irremisiblemente perdida en la droga, y aunque tiene benefactores, no hay quien la pueda sacar de esa realidad que empezó en su niñez. 

Se necesita un milagro. Y un santo.

Alguien que se dedique a ella en cuerpo y alma, porque es una labor titánica rescatarla del vicio y de la indigencia. Y como ella, hay muchos.

Se necesita ese don especial, esa abnegación que muchos no tienen ni siquiera por sus hijos o familiares, para estar junto a ése prójimo que vemos con lastima, pero aparte de darle una moneda o un plato de comida, no nos inspira a más porque no queremos comprometernos a recibir desplantes y amarguras en un esfuerzo ingrato.

Ese don que tienen los santos. Ya hay trabajadores sociales, enfermeras, médicos, burócratas, beneficencia y bienestar familiar. Lo que no tenemos son santos.

¿Por qué "Un Blog Religioso"?

Porque también tengo cosas que decir en temas religiosos y de fe.

Porque los creyentes necesitan apoyo.

Porque los creyentes necesitan quién los ronde.

Porque los descreídos también necesitan quién los ronde.

Porque me hacía falta. Porque nos hacen falta más blogs religiosos.

A partir de hoy, mi modesta contribución al debate religioso en este blog. En el nombre del Padre, del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo, amén.
